The all-new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV provides vehicle to load capability, which means it can be used as a mobile battery to power a range of appliances. It has two 220-240V AV sockets with a maximum combined 1500W on-board.

Mitsubishi PHEV’s are Bi-directional capable via the CHAdeMO DC charging system, however to utilise this capability an approved Bi-directional charger is required which is sold separately to the vehicle. Currently, there are no Bi-directional Chargers available to consumers in Australia, and Bi-directional charger manufacturers have not given any set dates for hardware release for consumers into the Australian market

Currently the Wallbox Quasar 1 is the only certified bidirectional charger in Australia – with conditional approval to install and operate only in the state of South Australia. Wallbox have advised that production of the Quasar 1 has been discontinued and is no longer available for consumers purchase.

No other Bi-directional Charger manufacturers have given any set dates for hardware release for consumers into the Australian market.

On 9 November 2024, Minister for Climate Change and Energy. Chris Bowen, said that an important milestone in the Consumer Energy Roadmap has been achieved - Standards Australia has approved the new standard that will allow vehicle to grid charging in Australia. "The process from now is that those manufacturers that enable vehicle to grid charging and those charging companies that enable it can register their products with the Clean Energy Council and get approval for each particular product". Minister Bowen added that "we'll be able to have bi-directional charging a reality by Christmas this year.

Gradual capacity loss of the drive battery over its lifetime, known as degradation, is a normal characteristic of this technology and is not caused by defects in materials or factory workmanship. As such, degradation is not covered under the New Car Warranty.

From 22MY Outlander Plug-in Hybrid vehicles onward, The Drive Battery Capacity Care Program provides for protection against degradation. Subject to the terms of the Program, when fully charged, if the battery does not retain at least 66% of its useable energy capacity Mitsubishi Motors will (at its sole discretion and election) repair, replace or otherwise treat the drive battery without cost such that it retains at least 66% of its useable energy capacity.

The Drive Battery Capacity Care Program will apply from the date of first registration for the warranty period of 8 years or 160,000kms (whichever occurs first). ^⋄1
